Alarm Permits
Rules and regulations for the application and use of alarms (automatic protection devices) in East Hempfield Township are established by ordinance and are enforced and administered by the East Hempfield Township Police Department. Any person/business desiring to engage in the following acts must obtain a permit from the East Hempfield Township Police Department:

  • An Alarm Subscriber Permit is required for any person to use an automatic protection device at any time within the limits of the Township. This permit must be located on the premises where the system is located and produced upon request.
  • A Business Permit is required to engage in, conduct, or carry on an alarm business at any time within the limits of the Township.
  • An Agent Identification is required to engage in or conduct business or operate as an alarm agent at any time within the limits of the Township unless connected with and carrying identification form a business issued a business permit. Agent identification must be carried at all times while engaged in alarm business activities and displayed upon request.

To obtain a permit, an application must be obtained from the East Hempfield Township Police Department. Applicants shall agree as a condition for receiving and keeping permits, to notify the Police Department in writing within ten days of any changes in the application filed; i.e., ownership, management, or persons to be notified in the event of an alarm activation. Permit Fees are as follows:

  • Alarm Subscriber Permits are available for a fee of $5 for a maximum three year period expiring on December 31st of a calendar year. There is no proration of a permit for the first year.
  • Alarm Business Permits are available for an annual fee of $10 due and payable by January 1st of each year. No proration is permitted of the initial fee, even if applied for and approved after January 1st.

Response assessment fees for false alarms are calculated each calendar year as follows:

  • First and Second False Alarm - No Charge Third through Seventh False Alarm - $40 per alarm
  • Eight or more False Alarms - $80 per alarm
