East Hempfield Township is fortunate to have the dedicated service of two volunteer fire companies and one emergency medical service organization located within the Township. Volunteers help protect your home and property. Please show them your support by making a contribution or by volunteering your time. Remember to always dial 911 in an emergency.

Susquehanna Valley Emergency Medical Service
SVEMS, P.O. Box 1, Landisville, serves residents in EHT as well as 16 other municipalities. The following services and information is available to residents and visitors: Basic Life Support Ambulance, Advanced Life Support Ambulance, Wheelchair Van Services, Invalid Coach Transportation, Ambulance Tours, CPR Training, First Aid Classes and AED Training. SVEMS is available to provide public presentations regarding services or educational sessions. Memberships are available by calling the business office at (717) 653-6885. Fire Services Committee
The Fire Services Committee is a nine member advisory board appointed by the Board of Supervisors to render advice on significant issues related to fire service in the Township. Membership consists of three residents-at-large, Township Manager, Township Finance Director, and the Chief and one member of the Hempfield Fire Department, and Rohrerstown Fire Company. This committee is primarily charged with reviewing applications for funding from the Township's fire services capital reserve fund. This fund was established to provide financial assistance to fire companies for capital acquisitions. The Committee makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors regarding expenditures from this fund.

Burning Permit:
The Township's open burning ordinance allows for burning of tree trimmings, shrubs, or brush only. An open burning permit can be obtained from the Township's building official at a cost of $5 per year. Residents must comply with the burning ordinance regulations. Permits for bonfires or camp fires are also available at a fee of $5 each event. Permits are not necessary for outdoor residential cooking, highway, safety flares, or any essential farming operation.
