Hazardous Materials
There are certain items and materials that households (not your trash hauler) must dispose of because they are considered non-trash and non-recyclable. You may contact the LANCASTER COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY at 397-9968 from 8:00 to 3:00 p.m. The office is located at 1299 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Examples of hazardous materials are:

  • CANS OF PAINT
  • MATERIAL ASSOCIATED WITH PAINT/PAINTING
  • OIL
  • VARIOUS TYPES OF VEHICLE FLUIDS
  • VEHICLE BATTERIES
  • PROPANE TANKS

Broken Glass can be disposed of through the trash program.  extreme caution needs to be taken.  Place broken glass in trashcan or a cardboard box, or wrap in newspaper and tape securely shut.  It is very important for the trash hauler to recognize that it is glass. NEVER place broken glass in a trash bag.  If unseen by the hauler, the hauler could be seriously cut.
