The East Hempfield Township trash collection and recycling program includes a number of services under one contractor, Penn Waste, Inc.

Penn Waste, Inc. observes these holidays:

If a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, trash pick up is not interrupted. If a holiday falls during the week, normal trash day will be delayed by one day.

Collection days are Monday through Friday.  On regular collection days, trash, yard waste, and recyclables need to be placed curbside by 5:00 a.m.  (It is recommended that trash be set out the night before to insure pick up). However, trash may not be placed at curbside prior to twenty-four (24) hours of collection day.   Trash bags, containers, and recycling bins should be placed no more than five (5) feet from the curb and should be clearly visible to the collector.  The Township can only guarantee the day of pick up assigned to your street.  Time of day is not guaranteed.  If inclement weather prevents pick up, Penn Waste broadcasts on the following stations:  Operation Snowflake:  WSBA 910 AM, WARM 103 FM; Storm Watch:  WHP 580 AM, 97.3 RIVER FM, 94.9 FM, 99.3 KISS FM, WHP TV-21 CBS, WLYH TV-15, and WGAL TV-8.
